About the Training Center

The Operating Engineers Training Center (OETC) exists to prepare and support skilled professionals in the operating and stationary engineer trades. Serving members of IUOE Local 701, the Training Center provides hands-on instruction, classroom education, and certification opportunities designed to meet the evolving demands of the construction and building industries.

Through a commitment to safety, skill development, and workforce excellence, OETC helps apprentices begin strong careers and supports journeymen in maintaining and advancing their expertise.

Our History

The Operating Engineers Training Center was established to provide structured, industry-driven education for members of IUOE Local 701. Over the years, the Center has grown alongside advancements in construction equipment, technology, and industry standards.

As equipment and jobsite requirements evolved, so did the Training Center’s programs—expanding certifications, refining curriculum, and strengthening partnerships to ensure members remain competitive and highly skilled.

Today, OETC continues to build on that foundation, honoring the traditions of the trade while preparing members for the future of the industry.

Hands-On, Industry-Focused Training

Training at OETC combines classroom instruction with practical, hands-on experience. Apprentices and journeymen train on real equipment, guided by experienced instructors who bring years of field knowledge into the classroom.

Programs are structured to ensure members not only understand the technical aspects of their trade, but also develop the judgment, safety awareness, and professionalism required on modern jobsites.

Supporting Local 701 Members

The Training Center works in partnership with IUOE Local 701 to ensure members receive education and certification opportunities aligned with union standards and industry expectations.
