Appropriate Dress: Report to the training center in clothing appropriate for work on a job site. Work boots, hard hats, and vests are required. Hard hats and vests are NOT available; you must provide your own.

Room and Board: The local will reimburse up to $50 per night (max 4 nights, 5 nights if Sunday included with receipts) for members traveling 100+ miles to training.

Drug Test: Substance abuse testing is required for Journeyman Upgrade Training. You will be required to take your U/A at least one week before your first day of training. The training center will mail/email you the information before your class attendance for you to complete at a facility near you.

Cancelations: If you register for a class but later find you are unable to attend, please notify OETC as soon as possible. There is usually a waiting list for journey-level-upgrade classes, and cancellations will be offered to other members. OETC has a No-Show Policy, which states that failure to attend your registered class session without giving proper notification may result in forfeiture of training eligibility for the remainder of the season.

NCCCO Testing for New Candidates

New NCCCO candidates—and candidates who have successfully passed the written portion of their NCCCO exams—should contact The Training Center at (503) 651-1101 to schedule a practical exam or to obtain information about upcoming practical exam dates.

For members planning to take the NCCCO written exam, the Operating Engineers Training Center (OETC) offers access to a computer lab for Online Proctored Testing (OPT). To utilize the lab, members must first schedule their written exam date and time through their mynccco.org portal, then confirm lab availability with OETC for their selected testing time.

Members who prefer to participate in an Event Online Test (EOT) may do so through OETC’s quarterly NCCCO group testing events, which can accommodate up to 10 testers per session. To inquire about upcoming test dates or to reserve a seat, please contact the Training Center at (503) 651-1101.
