Any 701 member in good standing may register for the Safety Classes (Forklift, Crane Refresher, Hazmat, CPR/First Aid, etc.) at any time up to 1 week prior to class date providing there are seats available. Minimum class size is required and if not met, classes may be canceled and/or rescheduled.
Journeymen in good standing (and working for participating employers) wishing to register for Training Classes must do so by calling the Training Center at (503) 651-1101. Please have your contact information ready when you call.
In the event any particular class is full at the time of your call, we will maintain a backup/wait list. You may sign up for a total of two (2) backup classes as available.
Signing up for an equipment session does not mean that you will obtain a TSP on a piece of equipment. Primary journeyman training seats are reserved for those who do not hold a TSP.
Cancellation Policy: Individuals who are unable to attend their scheduled class must notify the Training Center no less than 1 week prior to the class date. If you are a no call / no show for class, your name may be removed from the list for all additional classes during this training period.
Drug Testing Required: The Operating Engineers Training Center is a drug free establishment. You will be required to take your drug test a few days prior to your first day at training. Testing is conducted for drugs and alcohol by urine sample. The Training Center will mail/email you this information prior to attendance.
OSHA 10 & First Aid/CPR Certifications are now required per changes to the Master Labor Agreement effective January 1, 2016 with regards to obtaining Group 1 status, and retaining the ability to be requested by a new contractor by name.
C-STOP Training is being outsourced to community colleges and other groups. Classes are available at www.cstop.org. Training reimbursement is available with proof of completion (copy of card) and receipt. Submit copies to Dispatch Office: deanna@iuoe701.com or fax 503-650-7715.
This class qualifies students under OR-OSHA regulations as a Competent Person in trenching and excavation work settings.

OETC now offers FMCSA-approved Class A and Class B CDL training for Oregon and Washington. The program includes 40 hours of online training, 80 hours of yard training at the Canby center, and 40 hours of individual over-the-road driver training.
Pre-requisites: A learner's permit from your state of residence and a current DOT medical card are required before starting online studies.

Learn to recognize and respond to emergencies, give care to sustain life, and use CPR. Students receive First Aid and CPR certificates valid for two years.

This 3-day course satisfies 24 hours of classroom and practical training and lays the foundation for NCCCO rigging and signaling written and practical exams. A 701 Rig/Sig card is issued upon successful completion. Must attend all 3 days.

Pre-requisite: Must pass Written Grades and Equipment exam first.
TSP exams allow journeymen who are already highly skilled operators to move from the "B" or Group 2 list to the "A" or Group 1 list. Exams are given in sets of three.
Equipment choices for excavation operators: Loader, Dozer, Excavator, Backhoe, or Roller. Fail one test and you are done with TSP (Shotgun) testing.
Four days are allocated for completion of the 3 equipment exams (written and practical). No extensions will be granted. The class is limited to 5 excavation students.
